For our unified, college day was the 28th. This is where we tell students how important it is to be college educated. Now, my parents didn’t raise a fool. My dad was clear that college education gave you choices, confidence, and opened doors; although it might not make you money. Case in point, he was making as much as a manual laborer (he was a machinist) as many of the librarians with whom I worked (they had to have a BA or BS plus a Masters of Library Science degree).
With this in mind, I re-press this: http://www.simonstapleton.com/wordpress/2011/02/11/who-makes-more-professor-or-prison-guard-a-comparison-of-pay-for-different-jobs/
You want to read it. It’s interesting. It really makes you question whether college IS the way to go.
