Cranes and Gulls

A snowy white crane
surveys the school yard watching
for annoying kids

Each morning, a lone
white crane arrives, still against
dewy vibrant green

Quiet and alone
the snowy crane possesses
unoccupied fields

It fills me with joy
to see its snowy wonder
each chilly morning

Seagulls bark rudely
demanding students lunches
because hunting sucks

Bird brains they all say
yet the crows, equipped with such
can open the milk

Dark, cawing black birds
use sharp beaks to punch open
milk cartons for lunch

Sentinels lining
the perimeter waiting
for “them” to depart
