Metaphors for Boys

I used to refer
to them
as toddlers
with hormones

as dinosaurs
big bodies
little brains
reptilian
in some
Freudian sense

Somehow I missed
that they were
all going through
some puppy dog
stage

Big paws
lots of drool
the overwhelming
need to chew stuff
and everything’s
a toy

I’ve never wanted
a puppy
because they are
too much work

Now I realize
the same is true
of adolescent
boys

Oh dear. I don’t know whether to apologise or try to prove you wrong! (Ah, but my adolescence is quickly fading.)

As many of my very lovely male students point out, not every boy is like *that*. šŸ™‚ However, they do admit to acting just like *that* when they’re not at school — just not ALL THE TIME. So you can prove me wrong. I’m OK with that.
