You Say It’s Your Birthday! — WWTK Week 47

Welcome to We Want to Know Wednesdays Q&A Hosted by Mamarazzi and Crazymama

nullCrazymama is asking the questions this week:

{1} What is your favorite way to celebrate birthdays?

As much as I love my birthday (and I do, it really SHOULD be a holiday), I don’t really “do” much on it.  It’s pretty much about hearing the words, getting the cards, and now, because Facebook reminds everyone, seeing the posts.  Generally Taed will ask what I want to do.  And really, all I want to do is to hang out with my boys, maybe see a movie, and go out to eat.  Except if it’s Friday or Saturday night!  No place “special” because they will be packed, and I hate crowds.

{2} Which is  more fun to celebrate? Celebrating yours or your loved ones?

Celebrating mine. 🙂  I’m a little egocentric.  I will execute parties.  I don’t like to plan them.

With that in mind, I do try to make sure I call my friends on their birthdays even though I don’t get a card sent anymore (which is weird because I LOVE getting cards in the mail).  I post extra-long, semi-special and specific birthday wishes on their Facebook walls.  In general, I think it’s just great that they were born, and we’re all here.  Sometimes, if I have a little extra, I will send or buy gifts.  It’s nice to get a little something because that really does slow down with age.

{3} What is your dessert of choice for birthday celebrating?

I like frosting, but not cake so we pick up from Nothing Bundt Cakes and get extra frosting.  Otherwise, I like pie — lemon meringue, chocolate silk, key lime.  Or apple crisp.  Weird, huh?

{4} Tell us about your best birthday you’ve ever had.

I would have to say the one that just passed. Seriously, I got all the monkey love from my friends at work.  That was cool.  A gigantic fortune cookie from Cassie.  I’ve been told to expect something from Jolene that’s hand-made so I know that will be extra-special.  I don’t craft so I cherish those kinds of items because they are made with extra love.  I got birthday money — IN A CARD!  I was so freaking happy, it was silly.  You just don’t get that at 45!  I just spent it, too,  at Sears in the Lands End department.  I bought a beautiful blue-flowered button down and an orange sweater.  I love Lands End, but not the prices. 🙂  This made it WAY OK.

Not to mention the gorgeous flowers from my niece, Tiphany.  They were stunning and so perfect.  I loved the soft pink color of all the flowers.  I was so surprised, happy, and they made my birthday last.  I also got flowers from Taed.  They were sweet and packed with love.

PLUS!  I tried a new place with Carol called Rok Bistro.  OK, I over-cooked my chicken on the volcanic rock, and the cheese fondue I selected was a bit funky, but the chocolate fondue was good.  It was just fun to sit someplace for over an hour, enjoying dinner, and talking with Carol. We went shopping afterwards as well.  Nothing big, but just hanging out.

No matter how you cut it, I was the very blessed recipient of these people’s time and love.  What can be better?

{5} Share your favorite birthday song

I don’t have one.  Save for the title-mentioned Beatles tune, the only one I actually know is “Happy Birthday”.

{6} Bonus question:  if you could pick any age to be again, how old would you be and why?

I wouldn’t mind going back to 33, the year I got pregnant with Keb, and redoing all of that.  I probably would make the same mistakes, but it would be fun to see him grow up all over again.  He’s turning 11 this May, and he’s becoming a young man.  It’s really cool to see, but it’s tinged with a little sorrow.
