The relationship was fraught with agony,
ecstasy, glorious highs and horrific lows
incredibly, achingly dysfunctional
the kind of relationship that Burton had
with Taylor, only less rich, and more
drinking — hard-drinking, weekends away
nights alone, wondering, always wondering
when the priority would shift, when the deeds
would match the words
knowing change would only come
after a fabulous, spectacular
crash and burn,
where licking one’s wounds would
be coupled with a slow fade
leaving only a shadow of the

was
