Real

I don’t believe that men only want
women who look like Barbies
with inflatable breasts
to use as life buoys in case
of an emergency landing

I don’t believe that men only want
topiary shaped snatches
dyed exotic colors
waiting for the plane
to land

I don’t believe that men only want
women who will put them first,
attending to their every need
like some sort of adult
man-child in need of burping
and nursing

I don’t believe that men only want
exotic flowered women
powdered, perfumed, and pranced
around like prize show dogs
for their friends to judge
and covet

I don’t believe that men only want
a housekeeper, who cooks, cleans,
does laundry and keeps elaborate
cookware at attention, a moment’s
notice from whipping up an
eight-course tasting menu
just because

I believe that real men
appreciate squishy breasts,
full bellies, sagging bottoms,
messy hair and lives
and imperfections galore

Because real women,
unlike their plastic, Stepford counterparts
are the ones who fall in love
with real men

Absolutely true! As I tried to tell a female friend the other day who told me she wasn’t “hot” anymore, sexiness is far more than how much a woman weighs or what size she wears.

Maybe it’s not about whether others perceive her as “hot” and more than she doesn’t feel “hot”. Then again, if she’s hoping to get that from others, she may have to wait a long time. Hopefully it’s just a slump and she will regain her sense of self. Because truly, I’m not thin at all, and I can get a glance and an appreciative smile.
