Reminders

Entwined, passionate but not showy,
comforting, supportive, and kind
cold evenings snuggling in front of the TV
take-out, Chinese for him, Mexican for her
with cake, always cake, for dessert

Bodies overly ripe with spread
still capable of lust, this time with love
comforted by peace and reliable company
finding humor, not in a hurry
an ease of fitting together for years

Two peas, a pod, a podcast
music, Tuesday chores,
Saturdays filled with solitude
reading, bed, and family outings
filled the days of their lives

Yet a small dark cloud hung
a reminder that all is not permanent
that chance, capricious as it is,
might break apart their precious togetherness
allowing death to do them part
