In the beginning, the two, inseparable, in youth
shared everything, talking rapidly, joyfully,
forcefully, and at length because the two were connected
by words.

In time, though, the two started
bypassing words because looks, touches, and silence
were enough
so close were they
that emotions flowed between them
like electricity
connecting one to the other in a circuit
of love, admiration, respect, and joyful familiarity

Time passed, though, and words  crept back in
replacing their hugs, glances, and connectivity

but they didn’t know how to use the words anymore
so the words, instead of binding them together again,
started splitting them apart
a most painful separation

for two who had once been
as close
as two

without words
