Stolen Part Deux — We Want to Know BEAUTY

Hosted by Mamarazzi, Queso and Crazymama, Stolen from Jolene at With a Little Help from my Friends

{1} What is your “can’t go without it” beauty product/cosmetic?
{2} Do you apply make-up before or after doing your hair?
{3} How would you describe your personal style?
{4} How long does it take you to get ready each day?
{5} What is your one pamper, just for you, beauty splurge?

I wear make-up almost every day.  As such, whatever I put on it “can’t go without it.”  However, I suspect if I boiled it down soap, shampoo, and serums would be the key ones.  My secondary line is eye products — liner, mascara and shadow.  Following that blush and highlighter.

I apply my make-up when I get out of the shower.  I don’t know how to use a blow dryer, curling iron or flat-iron.  When I try, I look absolutely absurd and ridiculous.  The other day I tried.  First thing Taed said was, “What did you do to your hair?”  It was poof-y and helmet-y.  Nothing makes you look more middle-aged than that.  So I just let it dry naturally.  Which means nothing says middle-aged hippie chick more than that! LOL.

My personal style is very respectable middle-aged woman with hints of hippie.  I wear dark wash jeans, own a lot of layering pieces, have decent button-down shirts, and don’t wear too many funky or whimsical outfits.  I wear rings only on my ring fingers (although I’m known to wear stacking rings most of the time), they are usually silver, and they are not too noticeable.  I wear diamond studs, and a silver necklace.  In short, invisible.  My “style” marks me invisible.  Save for my shoes.  I wear Birkenstocks as much as possible and always sport rainbow toes — usually with glittery polish.

From start of shower to out the door is something like 30-45 minutes. Most of it is taken by dawdling in a hot shower (I love it, my skin doesn’t) and putting clothes on then taking them off.  I’d love to wear my funky light-colored jeans and my schmatta (huge Old Navy sweater) 24/7, but that doesn’t fly.  I have to be “in the mood” to wear certain things, so if they feel odd to me at all, I won’t wear them that day.  It can’t be logically explained.  However, my day will be ruined if I force myself to wear something that doesn’t feel good to me.

My wanna-be pamper is to have something done to my face — chemical peel, micro-dermabrasion, laser work, etc.  However, given that 4-6 treatments are needed at something like $200-300 a pop, that’s just not going to happen.  I’m much too cheap.  However, I would love to have the skin appearance I had in my 20s.  I’m cool with wrinkles, I just want smooth, flawless (no scars or dark marks) on my skin.  It’s not going to happen.  As such I am a product whore who will test drive every over-the-counter product that’s supposed to give me the same effects.  They don’t work, and I’m a fool to spend my money.  But I do… Perhaps I should just start wearing foundation. Sigh.

What I really tend to use is nail polish.  I love unique colors and will buy new funky ones for fun.  It, too, is a waste of money.

Living my pipe-dream, friends.  Living my pipe-dream.
