Each year for the past decade, I have had my students calculate the total number of gifts received during the “Twelve Days of Christmas”. This year was no different from other years, except that this year the students really showed a huge amount of willingness to persevere and work to get the right answer. Despite being told “No.” in response to their questioning the correctness of the answer, they would return to their seats and continue working. Sure, some needed more guidance than others. However, 90% were able to figure it out.
They worked hard for 45 minutes and were surprised when the time was over. It was so cool being in a room filled with accomplishment and pride. It made me wish that I had a question like that for each school week of the year.
